Who We Are

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi is a 501 c3 organization that is fully funded by donations. The mission of the DFM is to prevent diabetes and associated complications as well as to improve the lives of every child, every adult, and every family touched by type 1 or type 2 diabetes. We accomplish this through education, medical assistance, support, advocacy, and research.

What We Do

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi provides education through health fairs, our school based program called Sweet Subject, information for parents regarding type 1 and type 2 diabetes, community services that include emergency assistance with testing supplies, medications, and other diabetes-related supplies to the uninsured, pharmacy assistance, social services for needed resources. We also provide children's services which include programs like "We Care 2" - newly diagnosed children who are in the hospital, providing backpacks filled with diabetes supplies, educational books and other literature for the child and their parents, and our special mascot, "Sugar", parent-to-parent networking and Camp Kandu which is for children diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 and their families. The camp is free for the child. This is a great opportunity for kids and their families to meet others who live with diabetes and make supportive connections while having fun and receiving additional education. Finally, we provide scholarships for other children to attend week long diabetes camps.
