Who We Are
Southern Pines' purpose is to nurture the bonds between people and pets through community, compassion, and collaboration to forge a path toward sustainable, responsible, and community-driven lifesaving.
Southern Pines works with the city of Hattiesburg and Forrest County to house their stray animals, while also accepting unwanted and lost pets from all surrounding counties.
Southern Pines Animal Shelter promotes animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in a variety of ways, including:
- Finding homes for unwanted pets
- Providing humane care for all animals in our custody
- Working with community partners to connect resources to keep pets with their families
- Educating the community about the problems of unwanted, neglected, and abused animals
- Operating a low-cost, high-quality spay & neuter clinic for the general public (Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic)
- Sheltering lost pets and reuniting them with their owners
What We Do
At Southern Pines, our mission is to nurture the bond between people and pets through community, compassion, and collaboration. Our staff and volunteers work together in pursuit of our lifesaving mission. To support our mission, we operate our shelter, the Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic, and the Second Chance Thrift Shop.
Volunteers play a crucial role in our organization by:
- Provide animals with individualize care through Team Toe Beans and our cat and dog care provider positions
- Dispensing medications as a Vet Tech Assistant
- Driving life changing transports through the EmBark Pit Crew
- Fostering underage animals
- Assisting with special adoption and community outreach events
