Hawkins Elementary school are looking for volunteers to dress up as book characters and hand out candy and books! If you're looking for a fun and lively opportunity, this is it!

Hawkins Elementary School is looking for students to volunteer! Tasks include reading to students, helping in the classroom, creating materials for the classroom, sorting library books, creating bulletin boards, and other school related activities. 

- Task could include working with children or not working directly with children.

- Hours are between 8am to 2:30pm

During the school year, there will also be special activities that will need volunteers such as truck or treat, celebration parades, and other school wide activities.

Visit with residents in the memory care unit at Bellevue Assisted Living to help them as they work on interactive, textile activities that keep their minds engaged - activities including folding towels, coloring books, or sorting buttons, sitting with them, talking with them, listening to them, taking a walk with them, engaging them in any way that might encourage them. Volunteers are needed for one hour at a time at any time during visiting hours. Volunteers who can come regularly are requested. 

This is not a hard job, but it is one that calls for time, love and patience. That said, it is the most rewarding job you will ever have!

Bellevue Assisted Living has Beauty Day for their female residents every Tuesday.
Though it may seem mundane to most, this activity is one of the highlights of their week. Not only do they have their nails done, they have the opportunity to have one on one fellowship with friends! This is so important to their well being! Nail day is Tuesday from 9:30-12:00 noon.

With the holidays right around the corner, students are needed to help decorate for the coming months. Additionally, students can help plan and execute events for the Residents from OktoberFest to Christmas Day.

A community outreach event supporting the Oseola McCarty Youth Development Center. The initiative is to develop a community wide supply drive for local students in need from the Hattiesburg community. Students can support the initiative by collecting school supplies and by dropping them off at the Office of Scholarships and Financial Wellness. They are housed in Kennard Washington Hall.

Our volunteers are vital members of our team, whether they are helping from a distance or up close and personal. Volunteers can work in the office, make cards/crafts for patients, make check-in calls, sing/read to patients in their homes, garden, help patients write letters, or just offer a friendly smile and some company. 

We work around out volunteer's schedule to best accommodate them.

Training is completed online. It's easy, informative, and designed to give volunteers the tools needed to be confident and comfortable with patients.

This could be setting up a table with our resource information at community health fairs, senior events, conferences, etc. This could also be connecting us to events, partners, organizations in your community to host educational programs. This could also be sharing a short story or awareness presentation at civic, church or business meetings. This volunteer opportunity is flexible and can be tailored to your interests and time.

People living with dementia and their caregivers need to know about the Association and our resources, help us share that information.

Local AARP Foundation volunteers provide free tax preparation services to the Laurel/Hattiesburg community during tax season (February through mid-April).  In addition to tax preparers, we also need volunteers throughout the year to assist with website maintenance (Tax-Aide Mississippi), configure Chromebooks and routers for secure operation, and to follow-up on voicemail requests for taxpayer appointments.  Some of these activities can be performed virtually.

Fair Housing Testers

The Federal Fair Housing Act ensures that people of all races, colors, religions, national origins, genders, familial statuses, and disabilities are treated fairly when seeking homes. 

The purpose of this volunteer opportunity is to determine, in an objective manner, how an entity, institution, or individual is serving home seekers. You can test from your home - it is similar to secret shopping. You will be calling places and people over the phone until HUD says otherwise. There are no set hours or days, although tests are normally run during the week days. This is an ongoing activity.

S.T.E.M. Saturday is a free program that takes place once a month at Town Square Park. This program exposes children to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who care about the well-being of kids. For children involved in  Family Court cases, CASA Advocates provide information to the court to help decisions to be made more promptly and with greater information and sensitivity to the child's individual needs. CASA Advocates work for better outcomes, and provide children living out of their home with the knowledge that there is a community around them who cares.

CASA Advocates come from all backgrounds. Many work full-time. Some are students, working parents, or retired people. Flexibility, rather than employment status, is the critical factor. Most CASA Advocates work on a single case at a time. No legal expertise is required.

Volunteering as a CASA in Mississippi requires:

·       a valid driver’s license

·       a successful background check

·       30 hours of initial training.

Advocates must be 21 or older, undergo a background check and a personal interview, complete the training curriculum, and agree to abide by the policies and guidelines of the local CASA program they are volunteering with. Advocates must be patient, open-minded people who have good communication skills, a history of following through on commitments, and a willingness to accept guidance. Above all, they must care about children.

Advocates have a passion and commitment to this work that is invaluable to our most vulnerable victims. CASA volunteers make a life-changing difference for children and youth. Each volunteer is trained and supported by highly-qualified staff members.

Many volunteers have felt the call to become a foster family, but for various reasons have been unable to fully commit. Becoming a CASA volunteer offers an opportunity to make a lifelong lasting impact in the life of a child.

With the summer sun on full blast, our lawn is growing faster than our pups' tails can wag. We’re in need of a volunteer or lawn care service to help keep our grounds trimmed, so our dogs can enjoy their daily walks in comfort.

We are looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to come weekly, or every other week, to help us with our lawn care needs and who could help us keep the shelter greenery looking trim, tidy, and more welcoming. Specifically we are looking for volunteers who will help us with:

From opening your home to an underage puppy or kitten, to becoming an Adoption Ambassador -- there are so many ways to foster and every one means the world to an animal in need. Fosters play a vital role in the life of their foster animals and are a critical component to the success of the Southern Pines Animal Shelter mission as a whole. Simply put, fosters help save lives.

Southern Pines provides all of the supplies and medical care for our foster animals as well as ongoing training and support for all fosters. Fosters receive 1-3 volunteer hours per animal per day depending on the number of animals fostered and the type of care they require.

YOU DON'T NEED A LOT OF TALENT! Just willing to give time to someone receiving hospice care. We appreciate a gifted musician, however, if you like to just play music or sing along you will still make a difference!

Music and singing bring comfort and companionship to all people but is so appreciated by those who are confined to their homes or a facility. They need you as a volunteer to provide enjoyment and a quality of life. Only an hour or two a week, or even a month, makes a difference in people’s lives.

We will train and support you every step of the way! Volunteers meet all sorts of people in hospice, and each has a story and different circumstances. You will learn so much on how to enjoy the time you spend with them!

Gentiva Hospice is looking for compassionate hearts to serve as grief/caregiver support volunteers for our bereaved and those family that have gone through the experience with hospice (no medical work experience necessary - we will train you). Potential volunteers must complete a background check, drug screening, and a Tuberculosis Skin Test (all provided and paid for by Gentiva). We also provide training for volunteers to ensure that they are prepared for their role.

We have no set schedules or shifts. Our volunteers are able to volunteer for whatever works for their schedule. We can even have volunteers on weekends.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the USO Louisiana|Mississippi center located on Camp Shelby! The center is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. In the summer, we offer extended hours Thursday - Saturday from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Our volunteers primarily serve as host to the guests that visit our center. MS Votes will be hosting phone banking opportunities prior to the 2025 Primary and General Elections. Phone banking can be done from the comfort of your home or dorm room. You set your time and number of hours you will commit to. Training is provided.

If you are a lover of wildlife, this is the zoo for you! As a contact area volunteer, you will oversee guest/animal interactions and monitor animal behaviors at one of our two contact areas. This includes our Touch Africa Petting Zoo with Nigerian Dwarf goats and juvenile Alpine goats, as well as our Wallaby Walkabout with Red-Necked wallabies, Kunekune pigs, and emus. While you're stationed in these areas, you will have the opportunity to build enrichment for the animals, learn to use ethograms to record their behavior for keepers, and share fun facts about our wildlife with zoo guests.

This opportunity requires 12 hours of service monthly to make sure they are familiar with the animals in the contact areas. The zoo operates from 10AM-4PM Tuesday-Sunday and 2 or 4 hour shifts are offered. This is a flexible position and we are happy to work with your schedule!

Docents are volunteer zoo educators! The Docent Program’s main goal is to help promote conservation and it is the primary theme in guest education. To achieve this goal, we use fun, educational activities to draw connections between Hattiesburg Zoo animals and Zoo guests. Docents represent the Zoo and support its promotion of conservation efforts. Docents can expect to engage with guests and educate them on the Zoo’s various animals, exhibits, biofacts, and conservation efforts. Docents will be provided with “docent boxes” with learning modules to educate guests on various science topics. While sharing information about animals, nature, and conservation, docents help increase guests’ knowledge and positive views of nature.

We are in need of some active military or veterans to provide visits to some of our hospice patients that are military veterans.  Some of these visits might include simply sitting with them and carrying on a conversation.  Multiple times per year we hold pinning and commemoration ceremonies for the veterans in our care.  During these ceremonies, we like to have another veteran or active military in uniform to assist with the ceremony.  It is so much more meaningful to our veterans to have others that also served take up time with them.

Ambassadors must be able to communicate, get alone with others, drama and gossip free, loving, and a pleasant attitude. They may be asked to connect with donors, members, sponsors, volunteers, partners, clients, and others. Ambassadors must be accountable and dependable, have a willingness to boost our organization, mission, membership, and brand. Transportation is a plus but not required. 

Seeking individuals and/or students (marketing, social media, and communication majors) who are looking to gain experience in their field of study. This internship can be tailored to the individuals availability. Also may be performed remotely with proper log and documentation for final reference and hours approval. 

Intern will be responsible:

Resource Pop-Ups are held once per month, either on the third or fourth Saturday. Host/Hostess will assist vendors to their assigned space or table, setup, breakdown, and as needed. If the event has games, activities, and prizes the host or hostess will assist with them. Host/Hostess maybe ask to assist at our event table (sign in and out, distributing happies, taking orders or passing out orders). Host/ Hostess should be able to bend, stand, lift, sit, push, or scoot up to 30 lbs. Host/Hostess will collect donations, stock, and organize.   

 Boots on the Ground by Project G.A.P serves 42 counties and will host Pop-Up events. Host/Hostess maybe asked to travel (THIS IS OPTIONAL). If under 18, parent's written permission must be given prior to the event.  Event last for 4-5 hours plus travelling. 

Pantry Aide will assist with taking, filling and distributing orders. Aides will accept donations, assist with stocking, organizing, and keeping the mobile units clean.

As a Disaster Health Services Service Associate, during large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.
